The V8, no doubt, sounds better at idle and lower rev's. Especially vs the V10 when cold started. The V10 seems to overwhelm at high revs, when it's screaming! You really can't go wrong either way. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.
Re: S4 Cold Air intake. I have a Stratmosphere cold air intake. Very high quality set up and installs quickly with just a few tools. Do you have a B6? If so, you will love sound. As for power, I think north of say 4,000 RPM is where the horsepower/torque is most noticable. I did do AWE downpipes and a full cat-back system.
